MYP Biology
Fresno High is an International Baccalaureate World School - the only IB high school in FUSD. The IB program offers an approach to teaching and learning that is both challenging and rewarding. Through this rigorous program, students develop the skills they need to be competent scholars, confident graduates, and compassionate global citizens.
The IB is categorized into four programs which span the ages of 3 years old all the way to 19 years of age. This biology course is an MYP course - Middle Years Programme. The MYP is a framework that engages students from 5th grade to 10th grade in meaningful activities and projects that have real-world application. You can find more information about the MYP by clicking the image to the left, or by reading my message to students. |
PLI
Launched by FUSD at the start of the 2016-17 school year, the Personalized Learning Initiative (PLI) is a program that aims to incorporate technology and digital resources into the teaching/learning process. The goal is to create technologically literate critical thinkers and problem solvers. Classrooms which are selected to be a part of this initiative will provide students with a laptop to use during class time to access information, collaborate with classmates, and demonstrate their learning using technology.

Linked Learning Pathways at Fresno High School prepare students for careers. The rigorous programs "link" courses together at each grade level so that students are immersed in career-based learning that make the curriculum relevant. This biology course is a part of the Innovative Design and Engineering Academy (IDEA). This pathway prepares students for a variety of careers in engineering. During their 9th grade year, your child will take three courses which are linked together: English, Biology, and Introduction to Design. Throughout the school year, there will be projects and activities that involve all three of these courses. One project, three "subject-specific" approaches, three grades.

Remind App
I use the Remind App as both a biology teacher and a club advisor. It offers a way to communicate with students without having to exchange phone numbers. It is also a way to keep parents informed of important dates and provide real-time feedback on student performance. Should you choose to join the "Parent Group", instructions can be found below.
